Role model

In 2007, Xue Deray started to plan his bike trip from Bejing to Paris, through 7 countries along the Silk Road. He wanted to ride his bike to remind people about global warming.

He planned to raise 100 thousand NT dollars for his trip. He thought it would take 1 month or more to get enough money but in fact, he raised 100 thousand NT dollars in under a week and a bike, laptop, GPS etcetera. In total he had 130 thousand dollars, so he gave 30 thousand to charity.

His trip took him 6 months covering 15,000KM. He started from Beijing, took the Silk Road to WuLuMuQi (Urumqi), entered Kazakhstan and then passed through Russia, Ukraine, Poland, Germany and Belgium, finally arriving in Paris.

When he finished his trip, he wanted to have a perfect ending, so he rode around Taiwan.

Now he is back in his ordinary engineer’s life, but has already started planning his next adventure.

Xue Deray has provided an good role model for young people. He showed great stamina on his long trip, coped with many problems on the road such as visas, terrible weather, finding places to stay, safety and maintain his bike. He seems to have no fear of danger. I think this is what we need - to be brave, step out of our ordinary lives to see those of the other peoples of the world.
